Curator's Comment/s | This album contains photographs of objects fom the Kingdom of Benin, Nigeria sold by the London-based dealer, William Downing Webster. Many of the photographs are annotated with information relating to the vendor/s and some include purchase prices. It is likely that the photographic series was compiled by Webster in the early 1900s. The objects depicted in this photograph were purchased from William Webster as follows: 9920: to the Field Museum, Chicago in 1905. Accession number: 89786. 9933: unknown until 1904. Sold on 30 November 1904 possibly to Samuel G Fenton on behalf of Francis John Henry Jenkinson. Donated by Jenkinson to the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, University of Cambridge. Accession number: E 1904.377. This page also depicts photographs Af,A154. 36, 37, 39 and 40. " |
