INTERNETKOMMENTAR description notes | Das Idiophon ist Bestandteil des kulturellen und künstlerischen Erbe des vermutlich 800jährigen Königreiches von Benin. Der Klangstab besteht aus Bronze und ist mit hohlen Schäften durchzogen. Die Spitze ziert eine Vogel-Figur, dessen Identität bis heute umstritten ist, der jedoch als Wahrsagevogel oro verstanden wird. Solche Klangstäbe wurden In Erinnerung an eine falsche Prophezeiung des Wahrsagevogels und den trotzdessen errungenen Sieges des Königreichs Benin über die Igala im frühen 16. Jahrhundert gegossen. Bis heute werden sie zu Ehren des Königs von hohen Würdenträgern während der Opferfeiern der jährlichen Ugie-Oro-Zermonie rhythmisch angeschlagen. |
