Alle stukken... zijn oud en bijzonder goed. Ingesloten vindt U een detailfoto van de Yoruba (fl. 1600). Ik zou deze foto gaarne per omgaand terugontvangen. Bij totale afname ben ik bereid fl. 300,-- te laten vallen. De bestelling kan in één of meerdere malen gebeuren, naar Uw goeddunken, echter wel in de loop van 1969. MART2013,69: [Bell,] Edo (regne de Benin) Nigéria: Carried by influential individuals from the political sphere, figurative bells such as these were cast in the lost wax technique. More than just an instrument, it is an attribute and emblem of royal power. Because of its tone, heard over all other instuments, and the stable, solid character of the material it is made from - qualities associated with a dominant, immortal sovereign - the bell and its sound symbolize a commanding voice. Bronzen klok in piramidevorm op voetjes, vierkant opening en gewelfde onderrand, versierd met vierkantjes. Op halve hoogte opengewerkte strook met vlechtwerk. Op een zijde is een gelaat in half reliëf. Hengsel in vlechtwerk. Binnen is bovenaan een haakje waaraan een cilindrische ijzeren klepel.
